About this grant programme

While locally-led conservation is at the heart of our mission and drives meaningful on-the-ground impact, some initiatives benefit from additional expertise or coordination—particularly when addressing complex policy issues, technical challenges, or multi-stakeholder dynamics. The Catalytic Grant stream is designed to support these opportunities in Southeast Asia, enabling collaboration that strengthens local capacity, connects expertise, and complements community-led efforts.

While many grants support marine protection and restoration, we also fund initiatives in journalism and alternative proteins—all aimed at creating lasting conservation impact.

Catalytic Grant

Our funding approach

Catalytic Grants are designed to address challenges that require innovation, multi-stakeholder coordination, or capacity-building in contexts where local systems are still developing. Key objectives include:

  • Piloting novel conservation models with potential to scale and replicate.

  • Advancing complex multi-stakeholder initiatives, particularly those that connect local, regional, and national actors.

  • Strengthening technical and institutional capacity where infrastructure, expertise, or narrative power is limited.

Catalytic Grants are delivered through INGOs, which work closely with national staff, local organisations, and grassroots actors—maintaining strong investment in local capacity, leadership, and livelihoods. This approach enables focused, strategic action that amplifies and reinforces our long-term commitment to locally-led conservation.

Eligibility

Catalytic Grants are invite-only and not open to unsolicited applications, though we share our approach to promote transparency and collaboration with others working in similar contexts.
